Privacy policy for GolfSim Coach

Last updated: 10/4/26

The short version

GolfSim Coach reads the numbers from your launch monitor on your iPhone and gives you a lesson. There is no account, no sign-in and no advertising. Your practice history is kept on your iPhone and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud storage. We cannot see it. The app sends anonymous usage data so I can see which parts of it people use, and you can turn that off.

How the app reads your numbers

You can take a photo of your launch monitor screen with the app's camera, choose a photo you already have, or import a TrackMan CSV file. Either way, the numbers are read on your iPhone using Apple's built-in text recognition. Nothing is sent to us.

When a photo reads successfully, the app keeps the numbers and lets the photo go.

When a photo taken with the in-app camera can't be read, the app keeps that photo on your iPhone so the problem can be understood. It keeps no more than the last 10 photos, deletes each one after 30 days, and never sends them anywhere. A photo you choose from your library is never copied.

If a CSV file includes your name, the app skips over it and does not store it.

What the app keeps

For each session, the app keeps:

  • the shot numbers it read

  • the lesson it gave you and the drill you worked on

  • whether things improved when you measured again

  • any notes you write

  • which model of iPhone you used, and which version of the app

This is what makes your history, your progress and picking up where you left off work.

Notes are the only place the app stores your own words, so whatever you type in a note is saved with that session.

iCloud

If you are signed in to iCloud, the app keeps a copy of your history in your private iCloud storage. That keeps it safe and lets it appear on your other Apple devices. The storage belongs to your Apple account, and we have no way to read it. Apple's privacy policy covers iCloud.

Usage data

The app sends anonymous usage events to Google Analytics for Firebase. This is so I can see which parts of the app people use and what to improve.

What an event records is that something happened — a photo was taken, a lesson was given, a drill was opened, a session was compared. Where it helps, an event carries a short code, such as which node a lesson was about, whether a remeasure improved, or why a photo was refused.

Along with each event, Google records a random identifier created when you install the app, your device model, your iOS version, the app version, your language, and an approximate location worked out from your internet address, no more precise than your city. That identifier is not linked to your name, your Apple account or any advertising identifier.

Your shot numbers, your photos, your notes and the content of your lessons are never sent. Neither is anything you type.

This data is not used for advertising and does not follow you to other apps or websites. Google keeps it for 14 months.

You can turn it off at any time in the app: Settings, then Analytics, then "Share anonymous usage data". Turning it off stops the app sending anything from that moment on.

What we collect

I never receive your shot numbers, your photos, your notes or the contents of your lessons. The usage data above goes to Google, not to a server of mine — I have no server. The app has no crash-reporting tools, no advertising and no tracking. Apart from Google Analytics, it connects to nothing on the internet except Apple's own iCloud and App Store services. The drill videos are built into the app, so nothing is downloaded while you use it.

Deleting your information

On the history screen, "Clear my sessions" deletes everything: your sessions, your notes and any kept photos. You can also delete notes one at a time. If you use GolfSim Coach on more than one device, the deletion can take a little while to reach the others.

Deleting the app removes everything stored on that iPhone, but not the copy in iCloud. You can remove the iCloud copy in two ways. One is in your iPhone's Settings: tap your name, then iCloud, then Manage Storage, then GolfSim Coach. The other is to reinstall the app and use "Clear my sessions".

Permissions

Camera: this is only used when you take a photo inside the app. You can turn it off at any time in your iPhone's Settings.

Photo library: the app does not ask for access. When you choose a photo, your iPhone's own photo picker hands the app only the photo you picked.

Purchases

The app asks Apple whether you have an active subscription or have bought the app outright. It does not store anything about your purchase.

Google Analytics may receive the product name and price when you buy, with no name or account attached to it. Apple handles the payment. I never see your payment details.

Information Apple receives

If you download GolfSim Coach from the App Store, or test it through TestFlight, Apple collects some information as part of running those services, such as downloads and crash reports. That is covered by Apple's privacy policy, not this one, and we don't control it.

Children

GolfSim Coach is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If the app changes what it does with your information, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
